Apparently Satan was jealous that Job honored and showed respect toward God so much. So, one day Satan told God that the only reason Job was so reverent was because God blessed and protected him. God then allowed Satan to test or tempt Job but only within limits. God will not allow Christians to be tempted beyond their ability to bear up and will always provide a way to escape that temptation. Satan caused disaster to destroy all his possessions, his children and to inflict Job with great pain and suffering. All this was to tempt Job to deny his faith and trust in God. All people have some type of suffering and are tempted to sin by doing something not pleasing to God. Job's wife told him to curse God and die. Some of Job's friends came to see him in his great pain and suffering. For one week they just sat in awe without saying a word. Then each one took turns accusing Job of some great and hidden or secret sin. In all this Job maintain his innocence and trust in God. But they refused to believe him. They even said God brought all these terrible things upon him to punish him for his wickedness. Finally God spoke first to Job. God ask Job questions that cannot be answered today. Job replied, "Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know" … "My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." Then God spoke to Eliphaz saying "I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has." From the Book of Job Can You Answer These Questions?
